Being an Uncle

maxDrawing.pngI'm an Uncle, three times over really. This isn't anything new. I didn't just get a new nephew or niece. I've been one for I guess over six years now. I'm probably not the greatest Uncle. I do get back in town every now and then, but even then I'm fairly stingy on the "family time" especially during Winter when germs flow so easily. Okay, I'm a bit of a Grinch.

Part of the Grinchiness comes from the fact that I don't really have that much of a common vocabulary with children under the age of six. I get the feeling that I'm supposed to really like the munchkins when they're wee tots, but... well, I'm much more interested in playing cards, reading books, launching rockets, seeing movies, watching their interests develop in school. I've also got to say, I think when kids hit their early teenage years they really become interesting. Oddly, that's about the time their own parents seem to want to get rid of them.

Today Max drew a picture of himself on his new electric motorcycle. (Santa had to come early because Dad would likely not be home for Christmas.) Well, this Grinch isn't one to put pictures on the refrigerator. Sorry, that's just me. But on the other hand, this Grinch is one to put the important parts of his life on his website.

maxBlur.jpgSo even though Max did not give me an official copyright to post his artwork on the Internet, I think it'll be okay to post the picture on my version of "the refrigerator." And being a bit of a "collector of images" myself, I've dug up a picture of today's featured artist. The picture is a bit blurry, but I think that's pretty representative of my oldest nephew—a blur of motion.
